Indiana State Road Shields
|
|
Shown below are several state highway shields of Indiana. Obviously, the standards are not consistently
adhered to. Some aren't even close: for example, the large "INDIANA" on some signs are a style that didn't
catch on.

Typical or most common style of Indiana state road shields (1 and 2 digit highway). Small variations in
font face and sizes exist, but the they are by and large consistent.

Above are some 2005 state road shields. The main thing to note is there is no standard.

Unusual Indiana state road shields (1 and 2 digit highway). These sign have significantly different font
faces and/or sizes. The SR 26 sign on the right is an Illinois DOT creation posted at the state line. Note
the font size and placement of the numbers - identical to the Illinois shields except for the state name.

Typical or most common style of Indiana state road shields (3 digit highway)

Above is a 2005 state road shield. Notice the cardinal direction is in small caps and the numbers are similar in size to Illinois shields.

Unusual Indiana state road shields (3 digit highway). Most square shields for 3 digit highways are older ones,
but not all.

Sampling of old Indiana state road shields (3 digit highway). The SR 352 sign on the right is an Illinois DOT
creation posted at the state line. Note the font size and placement of the numbers.
